Violin and Viola Books and Resources I Use and Recommend (*)


The following books are also available at some local music shops. Prices may slightly higher on Amazon when you figure in shipping, but may be more convenient. For sheet music not available on Amazon, I recommend the following local Plano music stores:

Muse Music and Cadenza both carry most of the Suzuki materials and the Essential Elements series. They also have instruments for sale and rent. Both shops are owned and operated by skilled luthiers. If you violin needs repair or adjustment, always take it to a luthier. A luthier will do it right the first time, and get it done faster. A place that sells band instruments (and stringed instruments as an afterthought) will farm the work out to someone else, and add their markup, along with a day or two of delay.

Virtual Sheet Music - Classical Sheet Music Downloads(*) is an inexpensive resource for sheet music of all types. They have a reasonably priced membership program that allows unlimited downloads.

Violin

Essential Elements Series

I use the Essential Elements Book One and Two for all beginning violin and viola students.

Suzuki

I do not teach the Suzuki method, but I do use some of the Suzuki materials. In particular, the Suzuki arrangement of the student concertos are much better than other publishers, and at a better price.
